The week of June 5th to the 9th we did some planting in the beds around campus. To start we planted some perennial Geraniums in the beds outside of R1. We also planted red and white Portulaca in many different locations around campus including the Oxford Street entrance beds, the Cheapside entrance and the stone planters in the parking lot next to A building which have Paperbark Maples in them. These will go well with the theme of Canada's 150th birthday and Fanshawe's 50th anniversary.

In the garden beds behind M building we planted some more of the Portulaca, some Begonias and some Salvias which really filled in the area and really brought the beds to life! Outside the greenhouse some Cannas, Celosia, Tradescantia and 2 kinds of Coleus were planted which has turned an empty section into a colourful and eye catching garden.  We mulched all of the listed garden beds and the planters in parking lot 5 to help suppress the weeds, retain moisture and also to add more visual appeal to the gardens. With the hot weather and full sun out all week it was time to get the water tanker out so Jeff gave us the proper training for the machine. Nicolai, Norna, and Josh spent the last few days watering all the new plantings to keep the plants healthy until they get settled in to their new homes.

During the week leading up to the Cuddy Open Garden there was a lot of preparation still needing to be done. The campus team was at the college at the beginning of the week prepping various beds for mulch and annual plantings, but moved to Cuddy on Thursday and Friday to help the Cuddy team with all the last minute touch ups before the big weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday the open gardens were held and hundreds of people came pouring into the gardens for the food, tours, and especially the plant sale. The plant sale was a huge success as we broke our previous sales and admission records and had so much positive feedback from our valued customers. We’re hoping to keep the Cuddy Open Gardens something that people will look forward to each and every year.
