Summer Blog July
20/17
Since our last update the team has been very busy with
weeding, edging and mulching the many beds around campus. We’re in the final
stretch with mulching now, having only D courtyard left. After that it’s on to
team pruning with will be a large job with so many shrubs and trees on campus
that need a good trim.
Our chrysanthemum and poinsettia crops have also arrived
since our last update. For the chrysanthemums we have red and white blooms for
Canada/Fanshawe colours. Most of them will be used as fall plantings around
campus, but there will be a select number of each colour available for sale in
September.
The poinsettias arrived last week and it was an entire team
effort to pot up all 800 plants. We have 8 different varieties with varying
colours to mix and match with different holiday designs. A lot of work goes
into the care and growth of poinsettias, they are very delicate and will
require 15 hours of darkness to make the plant think it’s later in the year so
they colour up in time for the holidays. The poinsettias will be available for
sale in November.
The summers are always a very busy time for us and we work
hard making the campus look its best.
